MERCIFUL

So merciful, so merciful to me
So merciful to me

I’m forgiven, I am forgiven
Let that truth sink into me Jesus
I can come to You, with confidence
You’re gracious to me when I am less

I'm weary Lord, I am empty
But I know You know
And that You love me
You're my redeemer, You are my lead
I need You now to come to me

So merciful, so merciful to me
So merciful to me

If I remain in you
You’ll remain in me
You’ll be faithful for eternity
You know my weakness
You show me goodness
More good than I could ever receive

THE STORY

Merciful is the ‘one that didn’t make it’. We cut it from The Fire because it was too like the others. But I couldn’t let it get away. It's now been recorded on both 'the 252 Sessions' and 'The Difference'. It’s a song of thanksgiving in the face of God’s mercy for us. The truth that we can approach God in our weakness, with confidence, is something that’s not always easy for us to grasp.

The 2nd verse was written on a brief break from the studio. In the midst of the work and stress of writing and recording a new album, God’s presence cut through that Sunday morning. I could breathe, and I could think straight, and so I spoke my heart. “I’m weary Lord, I am empty. But I know you know, and that You love me. You’re my redeemer, You are my lead. I need you now to come to me.”
